The Cuéllar Fair Hi! How is everyone? Today I would like to tell you about our experiences at the Cuéllar Fair, which took place between 9th and 12th April. At first, we were very disappointed at the assigned location for the Scooby stand and complained accordingly. But, grumbling aside, we all pitched in and got the stand put up and also managed to open a part of the fencing so that people could access us directly. The colour of the Scooby t-shirts alone was so bright that we could easily be seen from a distance. And so Friday started off with us selling these t-shirts, together with pullovers, key rings, collars, leashes and so forth. On Saturday, we presented our absolute main attraction, namely a couple of Scooby animals. The stars of the day were three mixed-breed dogs (one of whom had been rescued from the streets of Cuéllar) and a sight-hound, who had been found tied to a tree in a pine forest. In addition, there were two small cats. It was astonishing how these dogs and cats captivated people, many of whom asked for more information about Scooby while buying our products. In the evening, Alicia Tardón gave a talk about 'Volunteering at Scooby', which kept the audience very interested. On Sunday the fair grounds were full to bursting. A great many visitors stopped by Scooby's stand to obtain more details about our work and to express their interest in our rescues. Of course, the animals looked so cute in their 'Adopt me' jackets! Now and then we walked about with the dogs so that people could interact with them up close. That evening, together with 30 other participants, we attended a talk given by Pablo Cabañas on the subject of animal protection. And then it was Monday with everyone asking about the Scooby animals, who had already been taken back to the shelter. Towards evening a wild wind started blowing and almost took our stand with it. We really had to hurry and get everything taken down and apart.
We put in a lot of work over those four days at the fair, but it was well
worth it because we accomplished what we had set out to do – draw attention
to our work and the plight of the rescue animals as well as to gain support
for Scooby, thereby helping to ensure the future of our shelter and all the
animals living there.
