Eastern holiday at Scooby – part 1 Dear Scooby friends, For the past seven years, I have been going to Medina del Campo to assist during the Eastern holiday. In contrary to other years, this year I went for two weeks instead of one. Eventually it became three, thanks to Iceland’s volcano Eyjafjallajökull :-) JURASIC PARK: Like always, I was very glad to be arriving at the Scooby grounds. If you have ever been a Scooby volunteer you recognize this feeling of “coming home” when you arrive at the shelter. My heart jumped for joy on my first day when I entered the area I call Jurassic Park” (because it is a place for the elderly). Our seniors have passed the long, cold winter well. These old dogs have been staying at Scooby for a long time now and every volunteer knows them. But one that certainly will stay with you is our sweet old giant Gabriela. She is an impressive Mastin lady that will melt your heart. Best of all, she loves to be cuddled and while you pet her under her chin, she falls a sleep and even starts to snore.
NEW DOGS There have been a lot of new dogs arriving since my last visit in august 2009. Even knowing that all these dogs are very social towards people as well as other dogs, you still go into a paddock carefully. But there is no reason to be afraid. Big or small, it doesn’t matter. They are all very sweet and happy when you pay a little attention to them. Once again, I have fallen in love J. At Scooby at the moment there are a lot of mixed breed dogs. But you can also find pure breeds, like a Mastin Espanola. They all deserve a new home! So please take another look at the adoption page and if you have any questions please ask for more information. But I can tell you now; you won’t be disappointed if you choose one of the mix dogs.
SEVILLA DOGS There are still a lot of dogs at Scooby who were rescued from a bad shelter in Sevilla. They have been here for over a year now! They are still waiting for their golden basket. Also, there are some shy dogs, saved from horrible situations, that are just yearning for a home to be loved and be your perfect pet.
CATS I became a little sad when I saw the large number of cats staying at Scooby. This has been a problem since the shelter came into existence. When I see all those sweet begging/craving cats I want to take them all home. Luckily they have each other as company but they are crazy about human contact and they deserve a home.
Besides the daily cleaning activities I have also experienced other things during my stay. Like the annual market in Cuellar, where Scooby attended and set up the Scooby shop and information booth. There was also the dog walk in Valladolid; but more about this later. Keep an eye on the news page for further up-dates. Lucy Elenbaas |
