Fermín online

Hi everyone, it’s been a while since I last wrote to you but I have been awfully busy.  I started this update several times but there was always something that prevented me from finishing it. I hope I’ll be able to do so now as I really do want you to get to know the people who work at Scooby and get familiar with the shelter and the work we do.  We have a great team, much like a family, who works together towards the same goal: to help those animals in our care and to advocate for those who cannot fend for themselves.

Many things have happened in recent months.  Some people and animals have left us and others have arrived which made us face and deal with new challenges and forget others due to the lack of time and volunteers capable of doing them.  We have started an active promotional campaign in the surroundings, a 'Galgo and Scooby Campaign.'  Almost every week we held an event in Medina, Valladolid, Cuellar and Segovia.  We are thinking about extending the campaign to Zamora, Capital and Province through Scooby Zamora and are counting on the help of our friends from other areas.

The number of Spanish volunteers has grown in a spectacular way and the number of adoptions in Spain has increased too - although it never is enough.  We keep on needing hands, eyes, mouths, ears, families.  We need hands to work, ears and eyes to pay attention to any case of mistreatment as we want to create a group to denounce mistreatment. We need mouths to spread the word of the work we do; it must be good work as everyone who comes will stay with us almost forever. This is why our big family grows every day.  However, we are still missing you!  If you have some free time, come and visit us.  You won’t regret it!

We need families who are able to adopt our little angels, for ultimately this is the true purpose of our work.  We need to find homes for our little ones and we need many: 600 families for dogs, 150 for cats, 2 for horses, 3 for donkeys, 11 for pigs, 2 for cows, 28 for lambs, 27 for goats, around 30 for geese, the same for ducks, 4 for doves, 2 for rabbits, 2 for pheasants, 2 for raccoons, 7 for hens, 5 for cocks - and we do need your help.

I know that there is an economical crisis but the ones who need your help most are the dogs and cats so they have enough food to eat. Don’t worry about the rest - I take care of them. They are lucky as all the food they need comes from my own farm; my family does not mind that part of what we grow is given to them.  However, we cannot produce food for the dogs and cats in the farm and need to buy that.

We want to put a meter on the website so that you will know at all moments how many animals we have, because, honestly, it’s not the same donating to Scooby as donating to some other organization. The number of animals that depend on us is so large that we really need your generosity especially in a time of crisis.  On our side, we’ll always do our best to provide for them to the best of our ability but lately it has become increasingly difficult.  The money available to take care of the animals has diminished quite a lot due to, I suspect, the 'bloody' crisis.

I also ask you to consider adopting one of our dogs, directly from us or through any of the partner organizations we work with. We need foster homes in Holland, Belgium, Germany, France and Spain.  We want to open Scooby branches in several cities of Spain in order to look for homes and funds - that means we need you even more!

If you have ever been involved with an organization and had a bad experience with them, come to Scooby and you’ll see that we are different.  Our only goal are the animals.  If you have never worked for any animal welfare organization but you like that idea, try us and I’m sure you won’t be able to quit.  There are so many good things you can experience in the animal world which, in return, will help compensate for the bad times you may be facing in your own lives.  This is a very gratifying job; you’ll see for yourself soon.

An on-line greeting which will soon be in person, I hope.
